Natura 2000
Once Slovenia agreed to come to
the European Union, it also agreed to work on the Pan European
Ecological network called Natura 2000. Slovenia had to designate
Natura 2000 sites on bases of the bird
directive and the habitat
directive. The proposed bird sites were called "SPA"
and the proposed habitat directive areas were called "pSCI".
Due to the occurrance of so many bird directive and habitat directive
species 35% of Slovenia is proposed as a Natura 2000 site. The
government and the non-governmental organisations are severely
investigating these areas on the densities and conservation status
of these species. When this is done these areas should be managed
in sustainable way that the species occurring here are protected.
