Special protected areas
All the species occurring on the
lists of the SPA's are legally protected. A small number of birds
are used to designate the special protected areas (SPA), the so-called
qualifying species. These species are from the
Annex 1 of the bird directive and have large populations in the
particular SPA. Additionally other regularly occuring
species from the Annex 1 are also taken into account
for the SPA. The third group of birds in the list are the birds
which have problems on national level.
